چکیده

Most common techniques for spatialization require the listener to be positioned at a “sweet spot” surrounded by loudspeakers. For practical concert, stage, and installation applications such layouts may not be desirable. Distance-based amplitude panning (DBAP) offers an alternative panningbased spatialization method where no assumptions are made concerning the layout of the speaker array nor the position of the listener. DBAP is implemented both as an external for Max/MSP and as a module for the Jamoma Modular framework.

Evaluation of Distance Based Amplitude panning for spatial audio

Distance-Based Amplitude Panning (DBAP) has recently been proposed as a new technique for panning sound sources in two and three dimensional spaces spaces. In this paper, DBAP is compared with two established alternatives, Ambisonics and Vector-Based Amplitude Panning, both objectively in terms of speaker gains and their variation with source position, and subjectively using listening tests to ...

Comparison of Higher-Order Ambisonics, Vector- and Distance-Based Amplitude Panning using a hearing device beamformer

The main advantages and drawbacks of Higher Order Ambisonics (HOA) versus Vector-Based Amplitude Panning (VBAP) for 3D audio sound reproduction are well documented. However, few studies focused on the effect of 3D audio reproduction artifacts and errors on the behaviour of hearing devices. This study compares the effect of HOA, VBAP, and Distance-Based Amplitude Panning (DBAP) sound reproductio...

Uniform Spreading of Amplitude Panned Virtual Sources

The perceived spatial spread of amplitude panned virtual sources is dependent on the number of loudspeakers that are used to produce them. When pair-wise or triplet-wise panning is applied, the number of active loudspeakers varies as a function of the panning direction. This may cause unwanted changes in spatial spread and coloration of a virtual source if it is moved in the sound stage. In thi...

3d Time-based Aural Data Representation Using D4 Library’s Layer Based Amplitude Panning Algorithm

The following paper introduces a new Layer Based Amplitude Panning algorithm and supporting D library of rapid prototyping tools for the 3D time-based data representation using sound. The algorithm is designed to scale and support a broad array of configurations, with particular focus on High Density Loudspeaker Arrays (HDLAs). The supporting rapid prototyping tools are designed to leverage ocu...

Frequency-Dependent Amplitude Panning for the Stereophonic Image Enhancement of Audio Recorded Using Two Closely Spaced Microphones

In this paper, we propose a new frequency-dependent amplitude panning method for stereophonic image enhancement applied to a sound source recorded using two closely spaced omni-directional microphones. The ability to detect the direction of such a sound source is limited due to weak spatial information, such as the inter-channel time difference (ICTD) and inter-channel level difference (ICLD). ...
